Digital Journal has seen a lot of first-hand reports and interviews this week. We implemented a new section on the site that showcases all the original work, and a quick glance shows a very busy group of Digital Journalists.
Among the original reports that got attention:
A Toronto story by Andrew Moran about a building that caught fire in the city yesterday. Black smoke could be seen as far as uptown Toronto as firefighters quickly knocked down a blaze on top of a condominium near the waterfront within minutes upon arrival.

Overseas, Digital Journalist Riccardo Valsecchi scored an interview with Aleksander Milinkevich, leader of the opposition in Belarus. The interview offers an intriguing view into the world of politics in the country.
Valsecchi also covered German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s talk with German Health Minister Philippe Rösler at a conference in Germany.
In Canada, the Pirate Party Of Canada announced it will run candidates in next election. Author Richard Mccallum landed an exclusive interview with Jake Haynes, the young leader of the Pirate Party of Canada.

• Penn football star found dead by Michael Bearak: University of Pennsylvania junior DE Owen Thomas was found dead at his off-campus residence on Monday afternoon. Thomas was a 6-foot-2, 240 pound defensive end. He had just been named as one of the team’s captains earlier this month.
• Deep ocean current that regulates global climate discovered by Gordon K. Chan: A deep high-speed ocean current has been located by scientists. Discovered in the Indian Ocean, this current is thought to be an integral part of the global ocean circulatory system.
• Man charged with murder after mother found decapitated by Kim I. Hartman: A 21-year-old man was charged with murder after his mother’s bloody, headless body was found inside her home. Her decapitated head which had been severed from her torso was found in a bag a few blocks away from where she lived on Sunday.

• Nanotech breakthrough: get ready for graphene, also by Gordon K. Chan: The exciting one-atom thick super material can now be produced in ample quantities and high quality. Rapid improvements in nanotechnology are now expected.
• World-renowned skeptic commits suicide on stage and fails by Bart B. Van Bockstaele: World-renowned skeptic James Randi gives a presentation at TED during which he overdoses on homoeopathic sleeping pills. This does not prevent him from continuing his presentation during which he also exposes psychic Sylvia Browne.
• Belgian Bishop Roger Vangheluwe admits sexual abuse, resigns, also by by Bart B. Van Bockstaele: Roger Vangheluwe, 74, a Catholic bishop of the Flemish city of Brugge in Belgium, has resigned. In a letter, he admits to have abused a boy before and after he became a bishop.
