Christopher Szabo also goes the photojournalism route for an article on South Africa’s commemoration of its Hungarian community. One commenter thinks more than just sculpture removal should be done: “I would rather remove MTV from our life than the statue from the streets. MTV makes more damage to us than an innocent sculpture that depicts something from real life.
• New Jersey mother plans to become fattest woman alive by Elliot Meszaros: The story of an obese woman hoping to gain weight was such a hot story Stephen Colbert couldn’t resist reporting on it. But before The Colbert Report showed this story to the masses, Elliot told us why Donna Simpson wants to reach 992 lbs to become the fattest woman in the world. Um, health consequences, anyone?
• World’s Shortest Man Dies at Age 21 by Laura Trowbridge: Sticking with the Guinness World Records theme, Laura published an article on the death of record-holder, He Pingping. The shortest man in the world was only 2 feet, 5.37 inches tall but he had a big reach, winning praise for his sweet demeanor and charm. He will be missed.
• Manny Pacquiao Wins Over Joshua Clottey in Unanimous Decision by Leo Reyes: Many articles told us what to expect with this anticipated boxing blockbuster, and Leo Reyes finally gave us the blow-by-blow when the match went down.
