Pippa Middleton’s photographs hacked

Pippa Middleton’s is the sister of the woman who married the second in line to the throne, as part of the U.K.’s hereditary succession process to become head of state. Pippa Middleton was also maid of honor to her sister Catherine (‘Kate’) when she married Prince William. Digital Journal readers may also recall that Pippa Middleton was tied up in some controversy when she ate whale meat, in light of whales being an endangered species.

Philippa (“Pippa”) Middleton is a fashion designer, occasional writer, and well-known socialite around the more salubrious parts of London. She is also frequently photographed and appears in gossip magazines and popular newspapers. Earlier this year Middleton became engaged to hedge fund manager James Matthews.

It is this popularity and celebrity status that led an anonymous hacker to approach The Sun newspaper with a clutch of photographs of Middleton including some, it is alleged, of Middleton naked.

This sparked an investigation and it appears, according to the BBC, that Middleton’s iCloud account has been hacked. The haul from the hack is believed to include 3,000 pictures and the person responsible was seeking £50,000 ($70,000.) A spokesperson for Middleton said: “Thank you very much for drawing this to the family’s attention. I can confirm that not only have the lawyers been informed but the police are about to be involved as well.”

The issue is likely to continue concerns about iCloud account security. Both Jennifer Lawrence and singer Rihanna have had their accounts hacked recently.
