As we approach the one-year anniversary of the onset of the pandemic, a lot can be said about the trials and tribulations the world has faced in the last year. While the repercussions of the coronavirus are most glaring, one issue that has come into question in recent months is the power of the media. With the headlines of 2020 making history every week, news outlets and media companies quickly became powerhouses of information consumed by millions of Americans. But one up-and-coming social advocate has been taking the time to hold the media accountable by sharing information and news that is factual and verified.

Based in Los Angeles, in one of the most covid-contaminated parts of the country last year, Yasmin Tavakoli took to social media last March to discuss the truths and fallacies of the pandemic with a doctor via Instagram Live. Now a year later, Tavakoli has evolved her platform into a podcast on Spotify and iTunes with a substantial following that has grown exponentially over the last 12 months as a result of her riveting discussions. Having graduated with a Masters in Diplomacy from the University of Southern California and later going on to work with the United Nations on various projects, Tavakoli’s passion for social advocacy has always been a personal priority.

Through her Instagram and podcast series dubbed “Talks with Yasmin,” Tavakoli has amassed a new and substantial following after interviewing relevant persons of interest including politicians, city officials, political pundits, social justice advocates, doctors, business owners and more. And though a year like 2020 has indeed brought out the political analyst in all of us, what sets Tavakoli apart from the rest is her approach to how she delivers information and news. With a true and genuine sense of diplomacy, the social advocate has discussed an array of topics, and across every single conversation, she prioritizes delivering the truth to her followers and listeners.

“I’m very adamant about remaining diplomatic across all of these discussions,” Tavakoli says. “I always bring both sides of any stance to the table and I like to provide a space where people feel comfortable to voice their own opinions without being judged or misrepresented.”

With the truth as the guiding force behind her brand, Tavakoli recently established a relationship with AllSides, a media technology company that insists on sharing balanced news, media bias ratings and civil discourse. With values that align, together the social advocate and the media tech company announced a partnership that entails weekly discussions held by Tavakoli through the All Sides platform. But above all, regardless of the platform, her message remains the same. In every conversation, no matter what the topic may be, she encourages her followers and listeners to do their diligence and to research the truth for themselves. In a world that’s dictated by the media, Tavakoli hopes to be a beacon of the truth, encouraging others to stand for nothing but the genuine truth in every issue they care about.

“Through these ongoing conversations, I urge my followers to open their minds to different perspectives,” Tavakoli says. “I like to bring forth the truth and perspective and furthermore, I hope these discussions encourage people to do their own research to become informed and aware.”
