Korean woman ‘trapped on the Internet’

According to a report by the Kernel, Chip-chan is a woman apparently living in the Seoul area who seems unable to tear herself away from the three webcams that are broadcasting her every move.

Chip-chan also doesn’t seem to live a life anyone would consider normal. She sleeps about 20 hours a day, and apparently doesn’t sleep between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. because of the threat of a police officer she will only identify as “P.”

When the webcams were first mentioned on 4chan, viewers thought she was dead. Her room is littered with hard-to-read signs. Users quickly began to gather whatever facts they could about the woman, eventually finding a blog that seems to belong to Chip-chan where she further explains her mysterious circumstances.

Those following her story dubbed her Chip-chan after reading the woman’s claim that police implanted a chip into her leg that causes her to sleep as long as she does. She also claims that “P” enters her room while she sleeps to turn off the cameras.

The Verichip she mentions does actually exist, though The Kernel points out that the technology likely doesn’t possess the power to make people sleep.

From observation, users have noted that she rarely leaves the room, but when she does it is in disguise. Others have claimed to speak to Korean police officers who say they are aware of the woman but say she is mentally ill. They occasionally allow her to take photos of them, some of which she has sent people who have tried to email her.
