Funny or Die, Conan O’Brien spoof the Apple Watch

On March 9, Apple held its “Spring Forward” event, which detailed a new MacBook and gave updates on Apple TV. But the most anticipated portion was more details on the Apple Watch, the tech giant’s first foray into the smartwatch market.

The event revealed the cheapest watch will go for $349, with the most expensive being more than $10,000 thanks to its 18-karat-gold face. The watch will only work with iPhones and will also rely on the phone for functionality. They will be released on April 24.

Shortly after the announcement, the most scathing critique of the device came from Deadspin. It criticized the huge price point, technical claims and said that it doesn’t solve any real problems.

Since then, a few parody videos have come out poking fun at the price point and Apple’s continued pursuit of accessorizing.

Funny or Die: “33 Must-Have Apple Watch Accessories”

In this video, David Neher plays Tim Cook, as he unveils a number of new accessories to make the Apple Watch work better on its own. It starts with a keyboard strapped to one’s arm, then a mouse, then a 17-inch screen, and it just gets more and more ridiculous as it goes on.

Conan O’Brien: Apple Pocketwatch

Conan O’Brien’s brief commercial, in the style of Apple’s minimalist ads, acknowledges that the price point for the Apple Watch may be beyond some consumers. The solution? The Apple Pocketwatch, a binder clip and wallet chain that attaches to phones.

“It’s more than a binder clip and a wallet chain. It’s $259,” the tagline says.

CollegeHumor: Why the Apple Watch Edition costs $10,000

CollegeHumor also took aim at the Apple Watch’s massive price point, and boiled it down to its simplest form — people will now you have a lot of money. The parody seamlessly parodies Jony Ive’s calming accent and Tim Cook’s enthusiasm.
