Dallas, TX, USA – June 23, 2022 – Digital TV Pioneer, Zondra Evans, feels like she is following in the footsteps of her cousin, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Iola Johnson. Seeming to have stepped into Johnson’s shoes, Evans owns and operates the first digital streaming TV network in Dallas, The Zondra TV Network. Her cousin, Iola Johnson was the first Black newscaster in the state of Texas and winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Iola was ten years older than me. As a young girl, I remember thinking she smelled like success, she always smelled so good. Now, I feel like I’m here to carry her legacy forward,” said Evans. “I never pictured myself running a TV network, but obviously, media is in my bloodline.”
Johnson was the first woman and the first African American to write for the ten o’clock news for the NBC affiliate KBOA in Tucson, Arizona. She has been recognized numerous times for her excellence in journalism and received the Life Time Achievement Award from the Dallas-Forth Worth Association of Black Communicators.
Being called “the Oprah of Texas,” Evans says she “feels like I’m being called to make an impact in the digital streaming platform, carrying the torch of my cousin into digital streaming media.”
