Judges for the 2022 Gold Nugget Awards have named Tucker Sadler Architects as an Award of Merit winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from throughout the United States and internationally. Tucker Sadler Architects earned its Merit honor for The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park which was honored for Best Special Use Project. 

Chosen from the elite pool of Merit Award winners, Grand Awards will be announced on June 22. The 2022 Gold Nugget Awards will be presented in San Francisco as a Highlight Event of PCBC.

“Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,” said Judging Chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish. “We applaud them all, and we look forward to our June 22nd celebration of Merit and Grand Award winners.”

Now in its 59th year, GNA is the largest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the nation. It honors design and planning achievements in community and home design, green-built housing, site planning, commercial, retail, mixed-use development, and specialty housing categories. Winners this year were chosen from over 600 entries from around the world.

Located in San Diego, CA, The Rady Shell at Jacobs is a 3,865 SF performance stage for full orchestra, outfitted with state-of-the-art acoustic technology and sound amplification, and  Traxon LED light nodes for artist programmed light shows with 55,000 SF of flexible audience seating area, which seats from 3,500 to 10,000 guests. 

The Plaza Entrance – Dual staircase provides direct access to audience seating. Stairs are formed by architectural grade, white concrete retaining walls with a lighting wall wash. 

Prebys Plaza – 12,875 SF, open-air dining plaza with stabilized decomposed granite and overhead lighting, two dining structures adjacent to the Prebys Plaza include a full-service kitchen. 

Building Entrance – Beneath the plaza, 64 permanent restrooms and first aid room for guest use, as well as private offices.

Onstage acoustic system’s digital technology enables performers to hear and respond to one another as well as they would in a top-tier concert hall. The L-Acoustics system projects sound to the audience from six angled acoustic towers, three on each side of the stage.

Lighting: Artists and lighting designers are able to create visual media to be illuminated on the exterior canopy of The Rady Shell via an advanced LED lighting system.
