True Lacrosse Illinois Program Brings New Talent Onboard

CHICAGO, IL, August 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ — True Lacrosse is excited to announce that highly-skilled coach and former player Shelby Cosman will serve as the Director of True Lacrosse Chicago girls division. Cosman has an extensive background in the sport, earning significant achievements as both a coach and player.

“I am thrilled to add Coach Shelby Cosman to the True Lacrosse Family as our Chicago Girls Director,” said True Lacrosse Illinois General Manager Christina Freid. “As an athlete, Coach Cosman has achieved what most young women dream of, four CCIW conference championships followed by four trips to the NCAA Sweet 16. Her passion, love of the game, and enthusiasm align with our P.E.E.R approach at True lacrosse. I am so excited to see our True Chicago program on the rise!”

Cosman’s successful athletic career began at Marian Catholic High School, where she broke the school record for most goals scored in a game, and was ranked in the top 10 Illinois high school lacrosse players. She went on to play at Augustana College, where she was a 3-year starter, a four-time All-Conference Academic, and finished with a career record of 73-9. In the four years Cosman was on the team, Augustana was undefeated in the CCIW conference, four-time CCIW conference champs, four-time NCAA Sweet 16 participants, and ranked among the top 25 DIII schools for numerous scoring and defensive categories.

Cosman began coaching her senior year of high school with IGLA lacrosse, and ran multiple youth and High School clinics during her time at Augustana College, including bringing clinics to orphanages in Portugal. After graduating college, she became the head Varsity & JV coach for Lincoln-Way, leading them to win the first playoff game in the program’s history. She also coached at New Wave lacrosse club for the next four years, while simultaneously working as a graduate assistant at Concordia University Chicago. There, Cosman built recruiting skills and turned a small start up into a growing program with winning seasons throughout the past few years.

Since graduating with her masters, she has been at DePaul College Prep High School, helping to start a new program that is currently on the rise as a new city team. Cosman is thrilled to be joining the True Lacrosse Chicago team.

“I am so excited to bring my experience as a successful high school and college coach to True Lacrosse to help build our Chicago program,” Cosman said, ” Improving players lacrosse skills, IQ, and helping with the recruiting process!
