Surely, everyone has heard of the most expensive painting of all time named Salvator Mundi, which was created by Leonardo da Vinci between 1490–1500. In 2017, the image, loosely translated from Italian as The Savior of the World, was auctioned for approximately $450 million by Christie’s in New York. Nobody knows the current owner, but it is rumored that a Saudi Prince bought the painting and kept it on his luxury yacht. Before its sale in 2017, the German artist Ivan Summersky visited the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at the National Gallery in London in 2011 and photographed the now very controversial painting Salvator Mundi.
In 2021, Summerky created his new masterpiece called Thug Life! using his now 10-year-old photo and a 200-year-old wooden frame. Thug Life! is housed in a small gold-colored wooden frame with the image of Salvator Mundi and the words “Thug Life!” across it. This work of art is also being interpreted as a homage to Da Vinci’s original work, but maybe it also criticizes the crazy story behind the original painting.
Starting January 2022, Thug Life! is on sale for $500 million on Summersky’s website www.thuglifeart.com. However, the selling price of the work of art is halved every month – if it does not find a serious buyer, it will be auctioned at the highest bidder in November 2022 during an online event. A businessman from Dubai and an American hip-hop producer have already placed a bid of one million if Thug Life! does not sell by November 2022.
In addition to the Thug Life! art piece, Summersky has created 36 individual digital works of art, so-called NFTs (Nonfungible Tokens), which he is offering for sale on the OpenSea.io trading platform for just under $50,000 each. He is also offering every journalist who publishes an article about the Thug Life! art project one of 333 “Supporter NFTs” as a “Thank You” for supporting his project.
Interested people who do not have the funds for the original work of art or one of the 36 NFTs can write a high-quality article and publish it. Participants will receive a supporter NFT as a free Thank You gift.
