The Largest Historical Museum in Tulare County is Now a Certified Autism Center™

Tulare County Museum has earned the Certified Autism Center™(CAC) designation, granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). The CAC certification demonstrates Tulare County Museum’s commitment to making all guests, including those with autism and other sensory sensitivities, feel welcome. To meet the requirements of the CAC designation, Museum staff completed training and certification to better understand and enhance the experience for autistic visitors.

“The Tulare County Museum serves a large community, and we strive to be inclusive of all visitors. This program has helped us take greater steps toward that goal of inclusivity,” says Amy King-Sunderson the Museum Curator.

Tulare County Museum has joined other organizations locally as part of an effort initiated by Visit Visalia to pursue the Certified Autism Destination designation through IBCCES, which would mean visitors have access to a multitude of trained and certified options when looking for entertainment, recreation, and travel options in the area.

“We’re proud to work with Tulare County Museum and support them as they enhance the guest experience at their museum and continue the journey with others in the community working toward making Visalia a more accessible destination,” said Myron Pincomb, IBCCES Board Chairman.

For more than 20 years, IBCCES has been the leader in cognitive disorder training and certification for healthcare, education, and corporate professionals around the globe. Many autistic individuals and their friends and family may face challenges when traveling to new locations or visiting new venues. To meet these needs, IBCCES created training and certification programs as well as other supports for attractions, hotels, and other recreational locations to ensure more options are available for these visitors.

IBCCES also created AutismTravel.com, as a free online resource for parents that lists certified locations and professionals. Each organization listed on the site has met Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) requirements.
