New Book Presents a Roadmap for More Effective Learning in Today’s Classrooms

October 4, 2021 – Capucia Publishing is delighted to announce the release of Dr. Ulcca Joshi Hansen’s THE FUTURE OF SMART: How Our Education System Needs to Change to Help All Young People Thrive, a guidebook on how to to implement holistic, human-centered learning that supports personhood, fosters relationships and community, and adapts forms of knowledge to individual learners on a broad scale.

Drawing on her years of education transformation and policy work, and experience as an educator, Dr. Hansen dives into the foundations of the current educational system, which has used the same model since its inception in the 18th Century. She cites a massive shift during the Scientific Revolution that led to a dominant worldview that changed the very meaning of education. She lays out the roadmap for educators and parents of the 21st Century to create a new approach to teaching that aligns with natural human development, facilitates learning for different kinds of brains, and prepares young people  for a changing society and evolving workplace

“Having Dr. Hansen’s special expertise and passion for change in education takes us even closer to ensuring that we can achieve the transformative movement in education we need,” states Sir Ken Robinson, author of Do Schools Kill Creativity?.

“Dr. Hansen’s push to transform education to honor different ways of being, knowing, speaking, thinking and engaging with the world would not only transform education, but students’ lives and our society,” says Paola Ramirez, Director of Family and Community Partnership, Reschool Colorado.

Dr. Ulcca Joshi Hansen is Chief Program Officer at Grantmakers for Education. She has worked in education for two decades and is a mother of two sons. Her experiences as an English-language learner and first-generation college student inform her perspective on what it means to provide an “equitable” education for every child and meaningfully engage communities in that effort. Her first book is THE FUTURE OF SMART: How Our Education System Needs to Change to  Help All Young People Thrive, is published by Capucia Publishing.
