The idea for creating an online career test came about twenty years ago after one of the founders of CareerFitter.com was wondering what career direction he personally should pursue in his life. Then, he had a dream of answering questions online that would help him understand his work personality and then suggest specific careers that would be his best match. As a bonus, he thought being able to watch videos, and learn more details about jobs would be nice. Eventually, he bought the online rights to the CareerFitter career test and added the other career research features including the ability to search for job openings near the user.
Founder Troy Norton noticed a growing need for people of all ages and work experience to find the career or job that best fits a person’s personality in our rapidly changing world. Gone are the days of following in the footsteps of our relatives because that was the family business. The original test was a paper version and with no prior experience in the online career assessment world, Troy Norton pioneered the online career assessments that went live online in 1998.
