Since their inception a few years ago, the Youtube channel has been hard at work behind the scenes to transform this online space into a repository of calming, serene and beautiful videos of the world’s most iconic landscapes.
Recently, the team traveled to Switzerland with their drones and camera equipment in order to capture its world-famous mountains and horizon-spanning views. ‘Switzerland 4K‘ is nearly two hours long, takes viewers from one breathtaking view to another, highlighting the best of what the country has to offer along with a soothing and peaceful soundtrack. As with all their videos, the team hopes that this combination of magical scenery and calming music will help their viewers find a sense of true peace while exploring a land that once inspired JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. According to Destination Paradise, the movies may have been filmed in New Zealand but much of the magic of the elves and hobbits is evident in the scenery that originally inspired Tolkien’s wondrous books.
Switzerland is a small Central European country that is home to fewer than 10 million people. When one thinks about Switzerland, the first images that come to mind are likely to be its gorgeous mountains (which feature heavily in Destination Paradise’s video coverage). The Swiss Alps are tall, snowy mountains, the vast majority of which rise over 13,000 feet. There are actually more than 200 mountains that rise over 13,000 feet (or 4,000 meters). Most of the country’s animal life lives in these mountains, including a species of mountain goat called the ibex. Once almost hunted to extinction, these beautiful animals number well in the thousands today and remain a protected species. Fortunately, their population is estimated to be on the rise, so future visitors may still have a chance to see one up close if they wish to hike through the landscapes that this species prefers.
Similarly, explorers may find that the mountains are home to many other examples of nature’s beauty, including deer, rabbits, squirrels, foxes, marmots, chamois and so on. Many birds also call these mountains home, creating a promising lure for nature lovers who want to take in both the sights and sounds of the outdoors.
Switzerland is a landlocked country, which means it is surrounded on all sides by land and does not connect to any major body of water. It shares a border with several countries, namely the nations of France, Italy, Austria, Germany and Liechtenstein. Most of its people live in the plateau between the high Alps in the south and the Jura mountains in the north, with a few regions in the mountainous area to the south seeing some small settlements as well.
Those who love browsing pictures of mountains will no doubt have come across one of the world’s most famous examples even if they did not know its name: the Matterhorn. This mountain towers over the surrounding landscape, its signature snow-blown pyramidal peak looming over lush valleys and the Swiss town of Zermatt. Its highest point rises to a staggering 14,962 feet (4,478 meters) and has attracted many climbers and explorers as far back as the mid-18th Century. Historically, it was also one of the last mountains to be conquered by climbers, though this was less due to any difficulty scaling it as much as the fear it inspired in early mountaineers.
While the Matterhorn is not considered a particularly difficult climb, it is still recommended that an experienced guide be consulted before an attempt is made.
