Spotlight: H. E. Marvin Rauf’s Determination to Carry Out His Philanthropic Aims

H. E. Marvin Rauf is the head of the Marvellous Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that is dedicated to helping the poor and impoverished in every corner of the world. Through word of mouth, they have grown steadily over time as they continue to coordinate their team of volunteers and canvas for donations to aid those less fortunate.

It is, however, important to learn more about how the Marvellous Foundation started. What opened Marvin Rauf’s eyes to establish a charity organisation? Why is Marvin Rauf on a mission to lift up the lives of the less privileged?

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Born in England to Jamaican and Kashmiri parents, Marvin Rauf experienced a diverse and multicultural upbringing. This enabled him to develop a richness of perspectives, morals, and values.

When it came to school, Marvin realised at a very young age that education serves a pivotal role in the life of all children, especially those who cannot afford it. He sees it as a creative form of engagement to help kids like him reach their potential and break the cycle of deprivation.

Getting Into Business

At the age of 15, Marvin began trading in antiques under the guidance of his grandmother. She gave him a clear understanding of commerce, trade, and hard work. Inspired by this work, he went on to gain a college degree in IT and graphic design in 2004, which led him to join Hallmark Cards whilst doing a PHD at Cambridge University, when he graduated. This experience allowed him to identify a gap in the market for a bespoke design and print company, so he started his own.

For the last decade and a half, H. E. Marvin Rauf has established several worldwide companies with hundreds of skilled employees in printing, transportation, telecommunications, and household waste and metals recycling. Because of these many companies, Marvin has created employment opportunities for ex-offenders, homeless young adults, and people with literacy and support needs.

Witnessing the Hardships

In 2012, Marvin saw Children in Need, the BBC’s charity program. He witnessed the effect of the lack of access to water, sanitation, and hygiene, and how these impact the lives of the poor and vulnerable communities. This inspired him to visit Gambia with two friends, and they invested their own money into water and sanitation projects in several rural villages. Thus, the Marvellous Foundation was born.

Helping From the Top

Roughly nine years after he decided to help out in Africa, H.E. Marvin Rauf became the ambassador at large in 2021 to IIMSAM, the intergovernmental observer to the United Nations economic and social council. He was appointed by secretary general H.E. Remigio Maradona.

Continuing His Advocacy for Education

Marvin remains determined to champion education above all else, providing access to it for the poorest communities in the hardest to reach areas. He believes it can improve people’s health, reduce poverty and malnutrition, and drive economic growth. Because of the different experiences he went through in his life, Marvin is committed to further inspire leaders to prioritise education through the Marvellous Foundation.

An educated community gives hope for change and progress,” Marvin said.
