DETAILS: Slack by the Sea .5K supports the HOW Foundation, which helps people with brain injuries and post-traumatic stress. These people are often suffering in silence, but they are a significant part of our community. For example, Palm Beach County alone has 6,480 veterans under the age of 60. The Veteran’s Health Administration estimates 18% are suffering from post-traumatic stress, and 22% are suffering from traumatic brain injuries. These veterans are young and have families. By helping ameliorate the debilitating symptoms of invisible war wounds (like post-traumatic stress and brain injuries), we not only help the individual veterans, but also their families as well as our community at large.
Sarah Crane, Event Chair and HOW Board Member, says: “Slack by the Sea .5K is truly a race for everyone – it’s accessible to all members of our community. It also reflects HOW Foundation’s mission that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) be just as accessible for people suffering from brain injuries and post-traumatic stress. Bringing our community together to raise both awareness and funds to support the Foundation are only several amazing outcomes of this race, which can be accomplished while also having a tremendous amount of fun!”
