Slack By the Sea .5K Charity Run Returns to Delray Beach on October 16, 2021

The .5K ‘Race’ in Old School Square Benefits Help Our Wounded (HOW) Foundation, Supporting Veterans with Brain Injuries and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Aug. 9, 2021 / PRZen / DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — After their successful inaugural event in 2019, the beloved Slack by the Sea .5K will be back this year, with participants, or costumed sleuth of sloths, “racing” around the Great Lawn of Old School Square. After completing a strenuous .5K, the celebration begins with the melodic tunes of 90’s Rock Band, Cracker. VIPs aren’t required to participate in the race; as the ultimate Slackers, they can enjoy a shaded perch from the loggia as other Slackers must complete the grueling .5K course.

All money raised during and from the event will benefit the Help Our Wounded (HOW) Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities by advocating for and providing access to hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a means of treating brain injuries and abnormalities.

WHEN: Saturday, October 16, 2021. Registration opens at 4 PM EST, race begins at 5 PM EST. Race concludes at 7:00 PM EST. Concert begins at 8:00 PM EST.

WHERE: Old School Square, 51 N Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444

COST: $45 per Adult, $20 per Child. VIP: $75. Early bird registration (Save $5 on any ticket) is August 7 to September 1. Teams of 4 + save $5 per entry.

DETAILS: Slack by the Sea .5K supports the HOW Foundation, which helps people with brain injuries and post-traumatic stress. These people are often suffering in silence, but they are a significant part of our community. For example, Palm Beach County alone has 6,480 veterans under the age of 60. The Veteran’s Health Administration estimates 18% are suffering from post-traumatic stress, and 22% are suffering from traumatic brain injuries. These veterans are young and have families. By helping ameliorate the debilitating symptoms of invisible war wounds (like post-traumatic stress and brain injuries), we not only help the individual veterans, but also their families as well as our community at large.

Sarah Crane, Event Chair and HOW Board Member, says: “Slack by the Sea .5K is truly a race for everyone – it’s accessible to all members of our community. It also reflects HOW Foundation’s mission that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) be just as accessible for people suffering from brain injuries and post-traumatic stress. Bringing our community together to raise both awareness and funds to support the Foundation are only several amazing outcomes of this race, which can be accomplished while also having a tremendous amount of fun!”
