Quantum-resistant PoS blockchain Doge Protocol proposes burying Time Capsule with Bitcoin, Ethereum and DogeCoin blockchain ledger data

Doge Protocol proposes solutions for handling data availability problems.

Tallinn, Estonia – January 17, 2022 – Seamless data availability is vital for secure functioning of blockchains but, unfortunately, blockchains are prone to suffer  from two major data availability issues. However, a new breakthrough quantum-resistant Proof-of-Stake blockchain, Doge Protocol, has taken up the  baton to resolve the glaring data availability issues with its innovative solutions. The blockchain platform has recently released a Data Availability whitepaper where it has proposed to launch a novel concept called “Time Capsule” that would serve as a historical ledger offchain backup to resolve historical data availability issues. 

Doge Protocol is a multi-fork of Bitcoin, Ethereum, DogeCoin and DogeP tokens. After the launch of the mainnet in 2022, Doge Protocol will become the largest blockchain developed ever. 

The recently released Doge Protocol Data Availability whitepaper has shared that there are two main data availability issues encountered by the blockchains. One is Historical and the other is Current. The Time Capsule has been intelligently designed to resolve the historical data availability problems.

The Historical problem is, the blockchain ledger gets larger over time as individual blocks are produced and transactions are added to it. The problem is more serious especially for blockchains that have to handle a huge range of TPS. And with the ledger getting larger, it becomes a problem for the blockchains to adequately store all the historical ledger data at such a bigger scale. 

Doge Protocol will be suffering from the problem big time as it will be a multi-fork of as many as 3 leading blockchains. However, the breakthrough blockchain will resolve the problem with an advanced form of Proof-of-Replication to store historical data. The replication mechanism will provide protection against attacks on replication schemes like Sybil attacks and Outsourcing attacks. 

Per the statements of the leading spokesperson from Doge Protocol, while on-chain data storage would be handy yet blockchains also need off-chain backup to ensure protection of historical data in unforeseen circumstances such huge natural disasters, software bugs etc. that might destroy huge chunks of data for multiple nodes.  

“Doge Protocol will support snapshots of the ledger that will be signed with validators as of the snapshot block. This signed piece will be shared by the community in various media, and other decentralized storage platforms. The hash of the data and other metadata will also be provided as a reference”, stated the spokesperson. 

However, the original off-chain backup storage providers might not exist after 30-50 years- and in such a scenario, the historical ledger data might get lost or skewed completely. This is where Doge Protocol’ Time Capsule offers to help. 

The recently released whitepaper of Doge Protocol discusses the proposed Time Capsule in detail – 

“Time Capsules will be created with wide community observation and publicity; the ledger data will be signed by validators (at that time) and preserved in a physical time capsule, possibly more than one across the world. This will also be recorded in AV (and possibly VR) and shared across various media. In addition, a unique identifier that contains a timestamp, a UUID, latitude, longitude of the place will be stored as an identifier of the Time Capsule. This identifier will then be signed and included back in the blockchain for cross reference. This process will be repeated periodically, though the frequency is dependent on the economic viability of this approach.” 

Additionally, Time Capsules will further help to verify the integrity of blockchains after decades or centuries.

The Current data availability issue is the problem of light nodes. Light node operation is useful during fast and inexpensive transactions – however, the problem is light nodes only download block headers and not the entire blockchain. Thus, light nodes can’t assure optimum security as they do not validate the entire condition of the blockchain, thereby unwillingly providing a free playing ground to malicious block attackers and producers. Needless to mention, such attacks are a major threat to overall blockchain security. 

“Doge Protocol solves the Current problem of Data Availability through Reed Solomon Code (error correction code) which helps to create erasure-coded versions of the block. Inspired by Ethereum, Light Nodes will follow a fraud-proof  model that will further help to enhance assurance of block validity.”
