A lot of progress has been made in promoting inclusivity over the last few years. Unfortunately, there’s still a long way to go before there is full representation of minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others. This is the issue Taylor Diamond-Vizcaino seeks to highlight with the launch of her newest project, Pride Pixies.
Pride Pixies highlights inclusivity in the NFT market
Founder and creator Taylor Diamond-Vizcaino realized that there was a big gap in the NFT market without anyone looking to fill it. Diamond-Vizcaino is the first female, LatinX and LGBTQ- activist founder in the blockchain space.
Her newest project, Pride Pixies, is an NFT collection featuring over 10,000 NFTs, each designed to express unique identities and communities. The communities represented include women and LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as various marginalized ethnicities, religions and races.
The collection is aimed to empower women and other underrepresented individuals. They also create opportunities for everyone to participate in the digital asset investment trend.
A driving force behind the collection is the vision to create a positive impact on a massive scale. This is demonstrated by their commitment to donating 5% of the profits to non-profit organizations, one of which is the Human Rights Campaign.
The inspiration behind the collection
As someone who identifies as LGBQT+, Taylor felt the need to have a collection representative of the communities she’s a part of. However, the creation of this collection was particularly spurred on by Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill” which made headlines in March of 2022.
The bill is originally titled “Parental Rights in Education” and was signed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. The bill addresses the education system’s involvement in discussing gender and sexual identity with young children. Many people came together to protest this bill, and the threat it poses to the mental well-being of children who may belong to the LGBTQ+ community.
The NFTs are representative of rebels. As the creator described them, “Pride Pixies are proud of who they are and won’t allow anyone to dictate who or what to be.”
The future of Pride Pixies
After the initial launch of the collection, interested individuals will be able to purchase on secondary platforms like Opensea and Rarible. Diamond-Vizcaino is also launching her own DeFi platform called Moovmint.io, on which the NFTs will also be available for purchase. The passion project stemmed from a need to fight for justice and equality for all people, regardless of what community they belong to.
The Pride Pixies collection is her way of bringing an opportunity to all those who normally don’t consider themselves included. Her hope is that more women and underrepresented and marginalized individuals will feel confident and empowered by her collection. This confidence and empowerment would help bring balance and equality to the future of the tech industry.
