Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas will be at My Pure Delivery’s Plano clinic to approve new milk donors and take milk donations from current donors on Wednesday, August 3 from 10am-2pm. The milk drive is being held in honor of World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Awareness Month.
The World Health Organization recognizes human milk as the ideal food for infants, however, mothers of premature babies often struggle to produce adequate milk. Donated milk provides these fragile babies with safe, optimal nutrition with immunological protection. In light of recent baby formula shortages, donor milk is more crucial than ever to support critically ill infants.
Representatives from the Milk Bank will be present to screen potential milk donors and collect donations. The screening process includes completion of an online eligibility form and medical history questionnaire, and a simple, non-fasting blood test that can be administered on site at the milk drive. Donated milk will then be equitably distributed to NICUs throughout North Texas.
Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas is a nonprofit organization founded to provide premature and critically ill infants with donor human milk when their mother’s milk is not available. Since being founded in 2004, the milk bank has collected and dispensed approximately six million ounces of donated human milk from over ten thousand donors.
