PORTSMOUTH, UK. -- A father and son team are making waves after launching a grassroots music promotion and production company, dedicated to showcasing new talent across the South of England. 

PlayZer Media Ltd. is the brainchild of father-son team Paul and Joshua Barnes, whose shared passion for music and personal resilience forms the heartbeat of the brand.

Award-Winning Talent Meets Lived Experience

Joshua Barnes is a multi-award-winning guitarist and promoter whose dynamic playing style and technical mastery have earned him accolades across the music community. With over five years of experience and several prestigious awards to his name, Joshua is known for captivating audiences and elevating every performance he’s involved in.

In the last year, Joshua has also stepped into the role of promoter, curating unforgettable events and championing new talent. Whether he’s on stage or behind the scenes, his commitment to artistry and live music continues to inspire.

Paul Barnes, Joshua’s father and co-founder, brings a powerful personal journey to the table. After being mugged in 2005 and undergoing four years of rehabilitation, Paul turned a corner by giving up alcohol; a decision he says changed his life. In 2007, he attended a media and sound production course where the original concept for PlayZer was born.

With a background in engineering and aviation, Paul’s attention to detail and technical knowledge feed directly into the production side of the business. After several years working in industrial cleaning and property management, Paul reignited his love for music alongside Joshua, and PlayZer took off.

From First Show to International Recognition

Their first event under the PlayZer banner took place in September 2024. Since then, the company has grown rapidly, investing in top-tier equipment and building a strong local reputation. In early 2025, they have already worked with bands from America and France, making the first foray into developing their reputation internationally.

A Vision for the Future

PlayZer Media Ltd. offers full-service event production, from sourcing bands and booking venues to managing live sound and technical delivery. Their experience spans grassroots gigs at notable venues such as The King Theatre in Southsea and The Hobbit Pub in Southampton as well as larger-scale shows at The Guildhall in Portsmouth and 1865 Southampton, ensuring that every detail is perfectly executed.

Their niche lies in developing new music talent through intimate, high-quality performances. Looking ahead, the duo is working on their most ambitious project to date: Battle of the Bands 2026, a regional competition spanning Dorset, Hampshire, and East Sussex.

The initiative aims to create real opportunities for unsigned artists, with outreach already underway via local music shops and community engagement. Plans include “Meet the Bands” events and accessible public showcases in addition to traditional shows.
