A Charlotte scholar using his pen & musically talent to secure Screenwriting Awards, Best Selling Author, and an BMI Award

CEO Mark Savage who’s real name is Mark Sanders Jr, An Amazon Best Selling Author, Academy Award winning screenwriter of Albert and a BMI Award Winning Producer, Mark Sanders, was in Fayetteville, NC Thursday, May 30 for a special author event. 

Sanders was talking about his latest book, The 9 Pillars To Succeed When You Come From Nothing. A masterful storyteller, his latest novel is an impeccably written and researched self help book, based on life experiences to get out the struggle. Born in Charlotte, Sanders received a BS in Sport Management from Livingstone College. During college he started his writing career with Full Sail University ghost writing for artist. After College Mark commissioned to the Military & earned his MBA. Since then he’s accelerated to earn a 40 under 40 award & 30 under 30 award. Sanders in 2 years submitted multiple scripts for Screenwriting awards where he’s received 5 so far. Along with a BMI Award for his co production on a sync placement. 

Being a screenwriter is not for the faint of heart.At most, estimates say that 20% of all screenwriters make it. And of those 20%, few can get their scripts developed in ways that are true to them. The recent strikes have only compounded this issue. 

Despite it being an older film, my screenwriting class found it important to watch the Daniel Snyder documentary “Dreams on Spec” (2007). This documentary follows three struggling Hollywood screenwriters as they work to break into the industry and have their work developed for the big screen. The film highlights not only how difficult it is to make it in this industry and how much work goes into creating a script for film, but also the many compromises screenwriters often have to make when getting their spec scripts developed. 

Of the three screenwriters, only one makes it —David Stieve, who is a younger talent agent’s assistant. The downside, however, is that even though his script, “Behind the Mask,” is picked up by Hollywood to be developed — and later turned into a trilogy — he must compromise greatly on important aspects of his story and writing. Conflict arises when director Scott Glosserman makes script changes Stieve does not believe in and later takes on the accreditation of co-writer. At the end of it all, Stieve has “made it” as a screenwriter, but at the expense of his storytelling.

On the other side, we have Deborah Goodwin, who aspires to write and direct a feature film. However, as she and her small company attempt to get a film off the ground, she struggles to pay her bills and get a side job. As several jobs and offers fall through, Deborah decides to leave the film.

The chief executive officer has a host of duties, but being the face of the corporation stands out the most. It’s a position that requires a special type of person: someone with the charisma to inspire, the knowledge to execute, and the vision to see what doesn’t exist. Mark Savage, known as Mark Sanders Jr, is that person. Lyrically adept, intelligent, and headstrong, he’s been killing the music scene since his debut single, “Currency” dropped in 2016.

He’s done everything from rap, produce, ghostwrite, and sell merchandise and real estate. Rather than use the mic to get money, he’d rather build a legacy for his son and your sons and daughters.
