Hainan Gibbon IP Design Competition Launched
Hainan, China – October 15, 2024 – Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, one of China's first national parks, has announced the official launch of the “Rainforest ‘Gibbon’ Ecology – Hainan Gibbon IP Design Competition”. The competition aims to strengthen the protection and promotion of the tropical rainforest ecosystem and rare wildlife, such as the Hainan gibbon, while highlighting the unique ecological and scientific value of Hainan's tropical rainforest. This initiative will enhance the brand image of the national park and showcase China’s achievements in biodiversity conservation to the world.
Hosted by the Hainan Forestry Department (Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park Administration) and organized by the Hainan Cultural Investment Management Co., Ltd., the competition is supported by Hainan University’s School of International Communication and Art and the Hainan Cultural and Creative Research Institute. The competition seeks to gather outstanding designs that precisely convey the charm, ecological significance, and cultural value of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.
Competition Content
- Main Character: Design a pair of male and female Hainan gibbon characters, focusing on their appearance, personality, hobbies, and other distinguishing attributes. The design should stand out and resonate with audiences.
- Supporting Characters: Create a minimum of three additional supporting characters inspired by the culture of Hainan's Li and Miao ethnic groups and other tropical rainforest flora and fauna. Include corresponding character settings and extended content.
Submission Period
Submissions will be accepted from October 15 to November 15, 2024.
Awards
- Top Prize: 1 winner, ¥80,000 RMB (before taxes)
- Finalist Prizes: 10 winners, ¥8,000 RMB each (before taxes)
Eligibility
The competition is open to global designers, design teams, art school students, and design enthusiasts.
Submission Requirements
- Main Character: Design a pair of Hainan gibbons, focusing on their visual traits, personalities, and distinguishing features that set them apart from other characters and resonate with people.
- Supporting Characters: Incorporate cultural elements from Hainan's ethnic groups and tropical rainforest biodiversity, designing at least three supporting characters. These should include corresponding character settings and extended content.
- 2D and 3D Presentation: Submissions must include 2D illustrations, 3D models, and three-view diagrams. A supplementary character video is encouraged as a bonus.
- Cultural Elements: The design should integrate cultural aspects such as Hainan’s natural and ethnic heritage, enriching the IP's appeal.
- Innovation: Unique concepts and innovative technology in the presentation of the IP will make the design stand out.
- Creative Product Expansion: Design at least three creative, marketable products to showcase the IP’s commercial potential.
- No AI Usage: AI-generated works are not accepted. Entrants must submit design and application files if selected for awards, or else bear full responsibility for any issues.
Each submission must meet the requirements of the competition across eight categories, with digital formats preferred. Entries must be submitted as a compressed package titled with the competition name and designer’s name (e.g., "Gibbon IP Design Competition_Designer Name") to the competition email hainancia@163.com by November 15, 2024, 24:00.
Judging Process
After the submission deadline, a panel of experts specializing in tropical rainforest biodiversity, ethnic culture, and artistic design will evaluate the entries based on scientific accuracy, artistic merit, and public appeal.
Results Announcement
The results will be announced through official media channels by the end of November 2024.
