Dr Sana Yusuf on the long road of building your own dental practice

PRESS RELEASE
Published June 1, 2023

Dr. Sana Yusuf’s road to becoming a dentist was not a conventional one. She graduated with honors from dental school at the young age of 24 and served several years in the military thereafter.

Her dental practice, located in Wesley Chapel, has gradually grown to incorporate a full-fledged med spa, offering a unique blend of services for both dental and aesthetic treatments. Dr. Yusuf's entrepreneurial journey has been marked by challenges, growth, and a commitment to making a positive impact on her community.

"The learning curve of being an entrepreneur and owning a small business is hard work. It takes time to build something beautiful and different,” Dr. Yusuf said. “Right now we have slow growth but it's steady. Our team is awesome and starting to expand both the team and the office as we are renting the space next door.”

The creation of the medical spa aspect of the business was not in the original plans, but once the idea came to fruition, she knew that it was the right decision.

“The office was never meant to be a med spa, but everybody hates the dentist and loves the spa," Dr. Yusuf said. “Sometimes you have to just give the people what they want.”

Dr. Yusuf admits she had no background in the med spa industry. However, as people kept asking about the spa aspect of her business, she decided to "give the people what they want." She started small, hiring an aesthetician and a nurse, and purchasing equipment. Eventually, her practice morphed into a full-fledged med spa, bolstered by an exceptional team and practitioners.

The unique selling point of Dr. Yusuf's med spa is its focus on the head and neck.

"Since I am the medical oversight, we can only do head and neck procedures. We are the masters of that area anyways. Instead of being a jack of all trades, master of none, we are the masters of the head and neck area," she explained.

As for her plans for 2023, Dr. Yusuf aims to expand both the dental and med spa aspects of her business, with hopes of becoming a staple in the community.

"I live in Wesley Chapel, so patients see me at Target, the mall, and the grocery store. It's important for us at the office to not just be a dental practice, but to make a meaningful impact in the community we live in," Dr. Yusuf said.

This dedication to community involvement extends beyond the walls of her practice. Dr. Yusuf is passionate about supporting the Sunrise Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Charity.

"It's personally important to me. It took a lot for me to get out of a difficult situation, and now I want to help others in similar circumstances," Dr. Yusuf said.

As the board president of Sunrise in her county, Dr. Yusuf has launched the "Smiles for Sunrise" initiative. For every new patient, the practice donates $5 to the charity, which helps provide necessities for the shelter, including electricity, therapy for victims, and diapers for babies.

"Giving back to the community is essential because you chose to be a patient," Dr. Yusuf said.

Her journey from dentist to med spa entrepreneur showcases her resilience, adaptability, and dedication to her community. By combining her expertise in dental care with the rejuvenating experience of a med spa, Dr. Yusuf has created a unique and thriving business that's poised for growth and continued success in 2023 and beyond.
