JMH Training & Compliance Offers Fatigue Management Training for NHVAS Accredited Operators and Heavy Vehicle Drivers

PRESS RELEASE
Published November 28, 2023

JMH Training & Compliance (JMH), is offering accredited courses on fatigue management for the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) and/or Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) accreditation.

BFM accreditation offers more flexible work and rest hours for drivers while retaining their ability to work up to 14 hours in a 24-hour period, as long as risks of driver fatigue are properly managed.

Unlike BFM where work and rest hours are prescribed, AFM accreditation allows for a risk management approach to fatigue, however, the operator must demonstrate greater accountability for managing their driver’s fatigue risk by implementing a risk management approach.

JMH has two fatigue units (TLIF0005 and TLIF0006) in their RTO scope. These are both nationally recognised units of competency and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has approved both of these courses.

The TLIF0005 (Apply a fatigue risk management system) is mandatory for drivers operating (or want to operate) under Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) or Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) under the NHVAS. Meanwhile, the TLIF0006 (Administering a Fatigue Risk Management System) is one of the mandatory requirements for those who will be scheduling, or supervising, or managing drivers and scheduling staff for fatigue-regulated heavy vehicles under the NHVAS Fatigue Management Accreditation.

The TLIF0005 fatigue management course involves the development and acquiring the knowledge and skills needed by heavy vehicle drivers to manage fatigue and safely work in the transport and logistics industry. It includes the use of fatigue risk management strategies, operating within a fatigue risk management system, identifying and acting on signs of fatigue, updating and maintaining records, planning and navigating trips, implementing appropriate strategies to minimise fatigue during work activities, and complying with work and rest limits.

TLIF0006 (Administer a Fatigue Risk Management System), involves acquiring the knowledge and skills for road transport schedulers, supervisors, and managers in administering a fatigue risk management system in the transport and logistics industry. It includes identifying and managing risks associated with fatigue during heavy vehicle driving, planning trips and updating records, operating within a fatigue risk management system, and developing and implementing policies, procedures and strategies to minimise fatigue in the workplace.

JMH Training & Compliance believe in proactive fatigue management strategies and their fatigue management courses are designed not just to allow companies to comply with regulatory fatigue management standards but also to provide practical and valuable training for workers to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills that they can immediately apply to manage fatigue.

To further assist clients in enhancing their compliance, JMH offer Chain of Responsibility training which is designed to ensure that everyone in the supply chain will do their part in ensuring that Heavy Vehicle National Law and Regulations (HVNL) are complied with.

JMH Training & Compliance also offer compliance support services. In addition to developing and implementing a management system for the business, JMH can provide on-going support or a one-off engagement to help the client maintain part, or all of their management system, providing peace of mind. Finally, JMH auditors can offer compliance auditing for NHVAS Accreditation, Western Australia Heavy Vehicle Accreditation (WAHVA), ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001, Chain of Responsibility, and Work Health & Safety.

JMH Training & Compliance operates nationally with offices located in Mulwala, NSW and Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and aims to help the transport, construction, grain and other related industries meet their compliance obligations by providing safety management system development and training.
