OnYourMark Education, high-impact virtual tutoring service has announced an initiative aimed at transforming the educational landscape for K-2 students through Virtual High-Impact Reading Tutoring
Fort Worth, Texas--(Newsfile Corp. - October 28, 2023) - To address the latest approach, OnYourMark Education set a vision to empower K-2 students in Texas and beyond by harnessing the potential of virtual high-impact reading tutoring. This alliance is about learning and revolutionizing the way the company nurtures young minds. The platform's initiative addresses the fundamental importance of early literacy skills.
The ability to read proficiently is a cornerstone for success in any academic endeavor and lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning. In classrooms during school, students virtually met one-on-one with reading tutors during the 2022-2023 school year, and the results demonstrated that participating students improved significantly more than those who did not receive the tutoring. Through this initiative, students made significant progress. Kindergartners gained 24 more days of learning letter sounds, while first graders gained 51 more days in decoding.
In addition, OnYourMark is a virtual early literacy tutoring program that connects tutors across the country with K-2 students in classrooms, providing foundational skill instruction to support school's Tier 1 instructional program. The study revealed the following key results:
Additionally, OnYourMark provides a scalable and supportive solution to the reading crisis in schools. Schools are struggling to fill critical staffing roles, and virtual tutoring can help.
OnYourMark Education provided tutoring grounded in the science of reading and focused on foundational literacy skills such as phonics, phonological awareness, and reading fluency. During the 2022-23 school year, OnYourMark offers virtual tutoring sessions four times per week for 20 minutes each from September through May in the southern United States. Results indicated that students assigned to OnYourMark tutoring scored approximately 0.08 standard deviations higher on end-of-year early literacy tests than students in the business-as-usual control group, with lower-performing students (0.18 SD) and first graders (0.19 SD) assigned to one-on-one tutoring benefiting the most. These positive findings suggest that virtual tutoring is a promising option, particularly in contexts with barriers to implementing in-person early literacy tutoring.
"The results of this study are incredibly affirming that we can think outside the box regarding how we've traditionally taught students to read. With high-quality instructional materials, intentional relationship building, and a truly individualized learning plan, virtual tutors can be successful with students who are often not getting everything that they need in a whole class model. Classroom teachers work so incredibly hard to provide their students with what they need. OnYourMark tutors can help. We have much to learn from this study and our school partners and are eager to grow our impact accordingly," said Mindy Sjoblom, Founder and CEO of OnYourMark.
Furthermore, OnYourMark continues to expand to provide high-impact tutoring services to K-2 students across the country, currently serving 2,000 students across 7 states and in 22 different schools. It has plans to add 800 students this school year and to grow to serve an additional 20,000 students in the next 3 years.
