Nicollet xChange is set to begin on the 4th of June and last for 12 weeks.

Launched in 2023 in collaboration with the Minneapolis Downtown Council and Downtown Improvement District (DID), Nicollet xChange aims to foster community engagement and sustainability. Unlike a traditional clothing swap, this event spans multiple weeks, allowing for repeated participation and acting as a community gathering space featuring food, music, and a mending and repair lab

"A Vibrant Downtown is a Safe Downtown," said Patrick Duffy, founder of Global Fashion Exchange. "By creating a space for people to connect, share resources, and celebrate sustainability, we're contributing to a more welcoming and lively downtown experience. This aligns perfectly with the DID's mission of making Downtown Minneapolis a safe and attractive place for everyone."

"As we gear up for another exhilarating summer of swapping, education, and community building, we are thrilled to join forces once again with the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District," Duffy said. "Nicollet xChange embodies the essence of conscious fashion and sustainable living, and our partnership with DID amplifies our mission to create a vibrant and safe downtown environment for all."

Local partners supporting the event include:

Luum Collective: A sustainability-focused event production company.

Fr8 Clothing: A local service promoting responsible disposal of clothing and textiles.

Zero Waste MN: An organization focused on waste reduction through education and advocacy.

Arc's Value Village: A thrift store supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

This year's Nicollet xChange will include contributions from local stylists and designers, such as Kenny Washington, Danielle Everine, Josh McGarvey, Radmila Dolokhanova, Maggie Rust Barrett, and Hannah Swenson of Where She Wore, who will offer swap styling content.

"Through the collective efforts of our partners, collaborators, hosts, and supporters, Nicollet xChange aims to foster a culture of conscious consumption and community engagement," Przedwiecki said. "Each week we will unveil new partners and elements that support a more sustainable lifestyle including a mending and repair bar, organic farm stand, and more!"

The Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District (DID) is a strong supporter of swapping at the Nicollet xChange. "The Nicollet xChange has been a resounding success," said Adam Duininck, President & CEO of the Mpls DID. "It brings people together in a fun and engaging way, while promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness. This aligns perfectly with our mission of creating a clean, green, safe, and vibrant downtown, and it is a great gathering space over the lunch hour on Tuesdays downtown."

Participants are encouraged to bring up to 10 new or gently-loved items, such as clothing, accessories, home decor, books, and art, which will be vetted for quality. Items can be exchanged for other items of similar value. The event promotes community engagement and sustainable living practices, aligning with the DID's mission of creating a vibrant downtown environment.
