With recent fear mongering in the media about the South African National Elections, over 400 volunteers gathered in Churches of Scientology around the country to distribute tens of thousands of copies of a booklet called "The Way to Happiness" to spread calm during the elections.

Scientologists, Volunteer Ministers as well as a number of pastors, bishops, archbishops of various faiths and two United Nations International Ambassadors for Peace representatives happily participated in the endeavor. In half a day, the teams reached nearly 80 different voting stations across the country and presented more than 66,000 TWTH booklets on an individual basis.

The booklet, written by L. Ron Hubbard, contains 21 basic principles, which, when applied, can bring about happiness. Such principles include "Do not harm a person of goodwill" or "Support a government designed and run for all the people" or simply "Flourish and Prosper."

"When I saw the smiley faces of people as they read the booklet while waiting on line to vote, I was happy to contribute in that way to ensure peaceful elections," said one of the volunteers.

The response to the individual distribution was transformational as both the recipients and participants reported a major change in outlook simply as a result of the booklet and the personal contact, with many requesting further copies for their family or friends. Some really appreciated the personal contact.

A few even saw the potential impact the booklets can create and immediately demanded partnership. One executive, after reading the booklet, asked for a full presentation to be made at a large mining company on The Way to Happiness.

Local shops started taking up the movement, such as an international food chain restaurant taking a box and distributing it one by one personally to customers and staff. A number of taxi drivers joined the movement distributing the booklet to their passengers.

"We are always looking for ways to help the country and distributing 66,000 copies of The Way to Happiness booklets throughout Mzansi to ensure of peaceful events was our way to assist," said Asthra Maximov from the Social Reform Development of the Church of Scientology in South Africa. "I was very happy to see so many participating, with others joining in. I was thrilled that we could help," she ended.
