Mar. 7, 2023 / PRZen / NORCROSS, Ga. -- Ergonomics and human safety practitioners from around the world will talk shop, share ideas and savor the spicy flavors of the Crescent City at the Applied Ergonomics Conference (AEC), March 27-30 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.

Presented by the Applied Ergonomics Society of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, the conference will offer three days of presentations on six topic tracks, as well as panel discussions, poster presentations, exhibits and networking events. One annual highlight is the Ergo Cup competition, sponsored by The Ergonomics Center of North Carolina and Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University, in which companies present their workplace solutions to earn prizes in various categories.

Conference Chair Mark Benden, Ph.D., CPE, Texas A&M University, said the Ergo Cup is always a highlight of the event in "All That Jazz at #AppliedErgo2023," a recent episode of Problem Solved: The IISE Podcast. "It's my favorite part of the conference every year because it's the one place I can walk around very quickly as an ergonomist and literally, within minutes in someone's booth, learn a new technique, a new method, a new approach, a new tool, a new way to solve a problem," he said. "And so it is absolutely invaluable for me professionally."

Other AEC highlights include:

Preconference workshops: Four sessions March 27 include "Ergonomics Certification – Preparing to Take BCPE Exam," "Practical Applications of Leadership Principles to Enhance your Ergonomics Program," "Wearable Sensors: A Comprehensive Overview" and "How to Use and Apply the Most Recent Ergonomics Task Analysis Tools."

Facility tours: Attendees can sign up for visits to Intralox March 28; Cintas (two sessions) March 29; and NASA Michoud Assembly Plant March 30.

Keynotes: Speakers Lashawn Boulware, a human factors design engineer for the Orion space program at Lockheed Martin Space, and Stephen Jenkins, director of safety and health for Cintas Corp., bring a varied wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Advanced registration savings end March 19. To register and explore the full program schedule, visit www.iise.org/AEC.
