Click Consult Celebrate Women in Tech this Girls in ICT Day

Closing the Gap for a Brighter Tech Future

Prompted by the upcoming International Girls in ICT Day and shocking statistics brought to light by the Women in Tech Survey (2023), Click Consult examined its own employee roster. The results were surprising!

The survey revealed that women represented only 26% of IT workers. This is a small increase from 2019's results, which showed that just 19% of tech workers were women.

This shocking statistic prompted Click Consult to look at their own gender balance within their company.

According to the PwC UK research report, women hold only 5% of leadership positions in the technology industry. This same report also discovered that an appallingly 78% of students couldn't name a single famous female working in tech.

Another reason for the unfortunate lack of women in the industry is that 83% of British female millennials stated that they actively seek out employers with a strong record of diversity, equality and inclusion. With the number of women in the industry already significantly less than their male counterparts, there is less of a draw to ICT positions due to a lack of female presence.

Despite the statistics of women working in ICT, Click Consult are proud to say that women occupy two-thirds of their leadership roles, with 61% of their overall staff being female.

As a top UK Digital Marketing Agency, Click Consult understands the importance of understanding and harnessing ICT skills. Click Consult specialize in some marketing sectors, such as Paid Media, Influencer Marketing and SEO.

Click Consult spoke to some of their own

Sarah Boyd, the manager of the Content Marketing team at Click Consult, explained the impact that their role had. She stated, "Managing a team has given me a huge sense of responsibility not only for my own team but across the business and even industry."

When asked about how she felt about working in ICT and digital marketing, Sarah went on to explain her thoughts,

expressing the following:

"I feel there are times when the digital sphere can still feel male-dominated, particularly at the leadership level. As a manager, I am extremely proud to have a team of young women who are eager to succeed and develop in their digital roles and take those senior roles themselves."

In addition to Sarah Boyd, Click Consults SEO team is also headed by a woman; Charlotte Chapman has been with the company since 2011. With a degree in Computer Information Systems, Charlotte offers a wealth of technical knowledge and has applied this knowledge to see great success with her clients.

Encouraging other Women to join the industry

Sarah encourages fellow women and young girls who want to embrace the digital world, she asserts that "For all young women, I would encourage them to seek out any job that they are passionate about and to never be deterred by stats, ultimately having a real hunger for your job is what will see you succeed, not your gender!"

As well as speaking to their own employees, Click Consult also reached out to leading tech expert, Kendall Langdown, who is the co-founder and Project Manager of Essenkay Solutions. Essenkay Solutions, a tech startup specialising in Microsoft ERP implementation, was founded in 2012 and aims to embrace emerging technologies and best practices.

Kendall believes one of the main blockers to women in ICT is the initial step. She says

"I think the first break is the hardest. Research shows that women often hesitate to apply for roles if they don't meet all the listed requirements, making the initial breakthrough particularly daunting."

She continued, explaining that what drew her to working in ICT was "The industry's ever-adapting technology ensures that no two days are ever the same, thanks to the constant drive for innovation and creativity.... being part of technology which reshapes society and business. From addressing pressing challenges to introducing new risks, IT is about adapting and shaping to change, and I find it exciting to be involved with this."
