Fort Worth Couple Shocked to Discover Infertility Clinic's Negligence Resulted in Two Children Not Being Genetically Linked to Father

Fort Worth, Texas - A heart-wrenching story of betrayal and medical negligence is unfolding in Fort Worth, as a married couple, Camille and Derrick Bryan, take legal action against their fertility doctor for a catastrophic mistake that has forever changed their family's lives.

In 2015, the Bryans sought the help of Dr. Robert Kaufmann to start a family; but what should have been a joyous journey turned into a nightmare. Despite undergoing successful embryo transfers in 2016 and 2018, the couple was shocked to discover in 2022 that Derrick was not the biological father of their two children. This devastating news was made even more tragic as Camille had recently undergone a medical procedure that resulted in her no longer being able to have children.

The Bryan's claim that the Defendants Robert Kaufmann, MD, Fort Worth Fertility, PA, Texas Reproductive Center, LLC, IVF Laboratories of Fort Worth, LLC, FPG Labs, LLC, and FPG Services, LLC d/b/a Ovation Fertility, used the wrong sperm in their two separate IVF procedures.

Tommy Hastings and Greg Feste of the Hastings Law Firm, Medical Malpractice Lawyers, are representing the Bryans in their quest for justice. They are seeking damages for physical and emotional pain, economic loss, loss of consortium, and medical expenses.

"The Bryans trusted the medical community to help them start a family, but instead, they were placed in an unimaginable situation.", said attorney Tommy Hastings of the Hastings Law Firm. "No family should ever have to experience the heartache and confusion that comes with having their trust broken in such a manner. Our goal is to seek justice for the Bryans and bring attention to the importance of accountability within the fertility treatment industry so that such negligence is prevented in the future."

Infertility treatments are often a last resort for couples struggling to start a family, and the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process is typically seen as a reliable solution . However, cases like the Bryan family's raise questions about the trustworthiness of these procedures. It is uncommon for such a catastrophic mistake to occur during IVF, but it is clear that improvements need to be made to ensure that it never happens again.

The Bryans' story is a warning to all families seeking fertility treatments, and serves as a wake-up call for the medical community by highlighting the need for stricter protocols and better processes to protect families undergoing IVF. The use of proper labeling, identification, and verification procedures can prevent errors and ensure that the right sperm and eggs are used in the fertilization process.

Medical providers must also be held accountable for their actions and be transparent in their procedures to restore trust in the IVF process. The Bryans hope that their case will bring attention to this issue and bring about positive change for all families seeking IVF treatment.
