Rising from the Ashes: Thomas Stray’s Journey from Controversy to Corporate Titan

Ingress: In a candid and rare interview, Thomas Stray, discusses his past of notoriety, his luxurious life in Dubai, and his ambitious ventures that may propel him onto Norway’s wealthiest list. “I was in desperate need of money. It was a nightmare,” Stray reveals, offering a glimpse into his tumultuous past and the rebirth of his fortunes.

Living in a sprawling four-story apartment on the Palm Jumeirah, one of the world’s most expensive real estate markets, Thomas Stray, reflects on his journey from notoriety in Norway to potential riches in Dubai. “I was desperate. Everything was falling apart. I needed money, and I needed it fast,” he confesses, revealing the depth of his past crisis.

Stray’s life in Dubai is a stark contrast to his past troubles. The electricity bill alone for his luxurious rented apartment is around 60,000 NOK per month. He is currently building his own residence on Jumeirah Beach, a testament to his newfound stability and wealth.

His lifestyle in Dubai includes a fleet of luxury vehicles, including two Rolls-Royces, a Bentley, and a Range Rover, and a personal staff, reflecting his opulent lifestyle. “Living like Thomas Stray in Dubai isn’t cheap,” he says, hinting at the costs of maintaining such extravagance.

However, Stray is reticent about the origins of his wealth. “I was a key advisor in a major acquisition some years ago. That’s where I got well paid,” he shares, shedding light on his financial resurgence.

Stray’s path to his current success was not straightforward. Starting as a book salesman, he quickly moved up the ranks, working for companies like Coca-Cola and Norse Securities. “I was young, thought I was on top of the world,” he recalls. However, his venture into the grey market of speculative stocks led to a dramatic fall, culminating in a debt of around 100 million NOK and eventual bankruptcy.

In Dubai, Stray reinvented himself as a venture capitalist. He is involved in various startups, including an electric car company, a data center enterprise, a bitcoin mining firm, and a cloud-based telecom venture. “I am constantly in search of cheap electricity,” he says, outlining the common thread in his ventures.

Stray’s entrepreneurial shift has been significant. “For the last three to four years, I have been focusing on entrepreneurship rather than stock trading,” he explains. His ambitions are grand, with projects in Saudi Arabia and several other locations, and if successful, they could place him among Norway’s richest, possibly surpassing his stepbrother Bjørn Stray.

Reflecting on his journey, Stray acknowledges the hard road to his current success. “Dubai is a wonderful place, and I’m in a fantastic place in my life right now. It has been a hard journey here, with many ups and downs,” he states. His strained relationship with Norwegian journalists remains a sore point, “It’s a relief to be in a country where journalists aren’t knocking on my door every day,” he adds.

Thomas Stray’s story is one of resilience and reinvention, a tale of a man who rose from the depths of financial and personal crisis to the heights of potential wealth and success. As he continues to navigate his ambitious ventures, Stray’s story serves as a powerful example of the enduring human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity and achieve greatness.
