High Pollution and AQI Levels Rise Air Purifier Sales in India in Q3 2023: Philips dominates as the Key Brand
India’s Air purifier shipment tracker demonstrates a major growth in Q3 2023, with a 64% rise in comparison to Q3 2022, as per the latest research from 6Wresearch. The rise was primarily driven by the increasing emphasis on Indoor Air quality attributed to the growth in air pollution.
The demand for air purifiers is the highest in North India on account of the rising air pollution levels in key urban cities, particularly Delhi NCR, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has exceeded 300 in Delhi NCR. The demand for Air purifiers may also be seen in other metropolitan cities in India like Mumbai and Bangalore as air quality worsens.
Air purifier sales generated the highest uptake from the residential sector, and it is driven by a rising focus on indoor air quality and rising awareness of the benefits that can be attained from air purifiers. Demand for air purifiers is also rising from Offices and healthcare facilities like hospitals, clinics, and labs.

According to Ravi Bhandari, Head of Consumer Insights and Transformation Strategy, 6Wresearch,
“Philips has attained the leading position in the Q3 2023 with a 53% share, and it is also the fastest growing brand in the air purifier segment generating over 200% growth as compared to the previous quarter. This was driven by the success of its AC1215/20 and AC1217/20 models in the country. Philips was followed by Xiaomi with a 15% share driven by high demand for its smart air purifier 4 and air purifier 4 lite models. Other prominent companies in the India Air purifier market are Dyson, Honeywell and Coway.”

Demand for air purifiers from players such as Philps, Xiaomi and Dyson are anticipated to expand by 30%-40% during the next quarter, the post-Diwali festival since people are becoming more aware of health risks linked with poor air quality, which is projected to reach the ‘poor’ category.
