Waskom School Chaplain Training To Uphold Traditional Principles Launched

PRESS RELEASE
Published November 22, 2023

As the National School Chaplain Association explains, school chaplains are professional and respectful figures whose primary goal is to uphold traditional principles in the school system. The announcement comes at a time when both public and private schools alike in Texas and the United States are impacted by far-ranging issues like in-school violence, including gun violence, cyberbullying, sexting and explicit material sharing, widespread depression and anxiety, gender confusion, and more. The NSCA believes the work of the chaplain has become increasingly important.

Following the passing of the Chaplain Bill in June of this year, the work of the chaplain has also become more in demand, and countless schools across the state--elementary, middle and high schools--have opted to welcome a full-time certified chaplain into their school community. That's why the NSCA is now specifically reaching out to people in Waskom who would like to consider a new career as a school chaplain.

While many people see chaplaincy as a calling first, which it is, it is also--as the Chaplain Bill reinforces--a legitimate career, of equal to many other full-time positions within a school.

However, in order to make chaplaincy a career, it is necessary to undergo training and certification through an esteemed and established organization like the NSCA.

With the support of the NSCA, most interested chaplains should be able to complete their training in as little as eight weeks and then the association will also work closely with graduates to ensure they can find suitable employment within a school.

In the US and worldwide, school chaplains have been proven to be a source of traditional values in schools, and in doing so they have also been proven to improve students' emotional wellbeing and to provide meaningful moral and spiritual guidance that can create hope, purpose and community.

A spokesperson for the NSCA said, "Chaplains certified by the National School Chaplain Association serve people of diverse religious, spiritual, moral, and ethical backgrounds. Readied with a Biblical perspective, our chaplains build community by inviting students into the fullness of life. School chaplain duties include but are not limited to prayer, counsel, and spiritual care for the school staff, the students, and their families."
