Toms River Drug & Alcohol Peer Support Group Services: Day Program Announced

PRESS RELEASE
Published February 6, 2024

The updated peer support service is designed for patients coming out of clinical treatment who require reintroduction into sober living. The program is also suitable for individuals who have received treatment repeatedly but feel as if they are unable to stay sober.

The announcement is intended to highlight statistics surrounding relapse rates in patients suffering from substance use disorders. According to studies by the National Institute of Drug Abuse, 40% to 60% of people with an addiction will experience a relapse within 30 days of leaving an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment center, and up to 85% will relapse within the first year.

As CFC Recovery believes that extended aftercare and community support are crucial to preventing relapses, they have designed their Intensive Peer Recovery Program (IPRP) to help transition individuals from clinical care into a recovery community. This program is primarily led by Trained Peers in Recovery, who will facilitate individual and group skill sessions to help attendees re-learn essential life skills and integrate into a sober social environment. Participants will also receive in-depth education on recovery and other topics pertaining to substance abuse.

The day program will be carried out over four consecutive weeks, taking place on Mondays through Thursdays. Throughout the duration of the IPRP, members will work closely with a recovery coach to create a proactive wellness plan, allowing them to track their progress over the course of their stay. In addition to emotional and life skill development sessions, leaders will organize various social activities, including self-help meetings and peer reflection discussions, and they will also provide members with volunteer opportunities, drug testing, and guided meditation offered by a spiritual guru.

Because the IPRP does not serve as a substitute for clinical treatment, participants who require services such as detox, SUD treatment, mental health services, and sober living can work with peer case managers who will direct them towards the appropriate resources.
