Glen Rose Full-Time School Chaplains To Make Safe Confidential Spaces Available

PRESS RELEASE
Published December 18, 2023

The National School Chaplain Association is pleased to inform schools in Glen Rose and Somervell County that they can now connect them with recently trained and certified school chaplains who are local to the region. As the only government-endorsed provider of school chaplains, the NSCA is confident that their chaplains--and the comprehensive support services their chaplains provide--can truly enrich the outcomes of schools in the area.

The primary purpose of a chaplain is to provide a safe and confidential space in which students, teachers and parents and community members can speak freely and truthfully. As NSCA chaplains are trained to be non-judgmental, open-minded, welcoming, empathetic and completely confidential listeners, they can add meaningfully to a school's existing welfare and wellbeing structures.

In particular, many nationwide studies have shown that chaplains--which exist outside of the disciplinary and teaching structures of a school--are more accessible for those students that are simply looking for someone to talk to.

Although school chaplains are readied with a biblical perspective and can offer spiritual guidance and care, newly trained and certified NSCA chaplains are ready to work in denominational and non-denominational schools alike and are eager to support student bodies in their entirety.

The National School Chaplain Association believes that anyone who works within a school in any capacity, or who parents a school-aged child, will have seen that children and teenagers at every grade from Pre-K to 12 face a myriad of complex and distressing challenges. As such, NSCA school chaplains are prepared with an extensive skill set that will allow them to effectively help schools navigate these turbulent times.

As America's leading body for school chaplaincy, the NSCA is also familiar with statewide and school-based policies and procedures. Their chaplains are trained to be allies to existing teaching, administrative and welfare staff, easing their burden and referring students to them in cases where mental health or other interventions are required.

A spokesperson for the association said, "As a collaborator, a school chaplain works closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address the holistic needs of students, ensuring their overall emotional and spiritual well-being are prioritized alongside their academic success. The positive results of hiring a school chaplain are seen in an overall increase in moral values, ethics, character development, integrity, compassion, and improved self-image among students and school staff alike."
