As with previous iterations, the current MagCast Bobsled Run will be led by two owners of MagCast, each with over a decade of digital publishing experience.

The goal of the course is to equip students with the tools to launch a magazine in 2024 and position it for continued growth throughout its lifetime. Participants can choose to attend the sessions live or watch replays of the classes, which will be accessible for up to a year.

The first of the five sessions is intended to help attendees determine if publishing is the right venture for them. As such, the class covers fundamental topics such as suitable niches and the real-world benefits of magazine ownership.

Participants will also learn how to address publisher anxiety and avoid common mistakes that novices may make in the process of launching their magazines.

The second module will instruct students on choosing the appropriate direction for their publication. This includes selecting a niche, naming and pricing their issues, and deciding on a publishing cadence.

Class three starts with lessons on how to generate content ideas, sourcing content, choosing photos, and creating a mock-up cover. Then, it moves into developing an editorial calendar so students can get an idea of what their magazine's content will look like beyond their first issue.

Class four discusses the topics of marketing and promotion plus outreach strategies and tactics and how to represent a magazine to others even before it goes live.

The fifth and final class will focus on the different facets of monetization available to magazines and help students pivot from thinking about a magazine as just a magazine and instead as a media business.

Important to note is that the Bobsled Run also shows students how to use AI tools like ChatGPT in unconventional ways for things like content planning.
