Author Bill Dyer explains how victims and offenders can come together to express the hurt and pain they feel and find a new empathy for one another. He describes how walls of fear and defensiveness can be broken down by facing the truth and being open and honest.

In 1998, while stopping at an ATM, Bill Dyer was robbed at gunpoint, shot, and left for dead. He spent three months in hospital and needed a full body cast to recover from his injuries. He reveals how the incident left him angry, resentful, and obsessed with getting revenge until a miraculous encounter with God changed his outlook. Little did he know that years later he would be visiting prisons to share his story with inmates and to bear witness to God's power in his life.

Speaking about 'Doing Time with God', Sr. Helen Prejean - author of 'Dead Man Walking' - says, "A beautiful testimony of how our shared life in God is renewed through story. It shows the reconciling power of God's love in our openness and vulnerability - the way to Peace. If you want to see who we are created to be for one another, read this book. It is a wake-up call."

The book also contains a section of discussion points and questions to encourage the sharing of ideas and reflections among groups. An afterword from Bill Dyer invites further reflection among readers and calls readers to apply the book's message of peace and reconciliation in their own lives.

Joseph Pryor, former Chief Chaplain of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, says, "The presence of a loving, nurturing, and persistent God weaves its way through each page-turning account of how lives are changed by Faith. I highly recommend this book; especially to anyone who believes the redemption of God has human limitations."

Other chapters deal with the freedom that telling the truth can bring and the importance of building self-esteem, empathy, and compassion to sustain personal growth.
