Angleton Accredited School Chaplain Training To Guide Students Launched

PRESS RELEASE
Published November 22, 2023

Following the passing of the Chaplain Bill in Texas earlier this year--a decision which means chaplains can now work in any elementary, middle or high school in the state, whether public or private--the National School Chaplain Association has seen that a slate of new full-time positions are currently opening up for chaplains in Texas. With the announcement, the association is reaching out to people in Angleton and Brazoria County who feel they are called to help guide children and young people.

In essence, a school chaplain serves as a source of pastoral care and spiritual guidance in a school, and given the vast shortage of licensed counselors that schools in Texas are facing, the NSCA believes its newly announced chaplain training can play a critical role.

The nationwide chaplaincy organization explained, "Becoming a certified school chaplain opens doors for you to touch the lives of countless students and teachers, and to leave an indelible mark on their journeys and generations to come."

The types of candidates that the National School Chaplain Association is looking for to become school chaplains are people with prior teaching and ministry experience, people who are respected within their community, and people who uphold conservative values.

With 38% of Gen Z now identifying as liberal, more than double the number that identify as conservative, the NSCA has seen that conservative values in the youngest generation of Americans is quickly fading, and they believe, to their detriment.

With higher levels of violence and bullying in schools, an epidemic of anxiety and depression, and new social issues like gender confusion arising, the National School Chaplain Association believes that a return to strong community and family values can greatly aid students, as can uplifting spiritual guidance which helps them to develop more positive and hopeful ideations.

Interested school chaplains will gain all the skills they need to deliver this kind of pastoral care and spiritual guidance through the NSCA's online training program, an intensive eight-week course with additional programming in school safety.

A spokesperson for the association said, "We invite you to unlock your potential to make a profound impact on the lives of students as a certified school chaplain."
