Nonprofit's Interactive Booth in ‘Safety City' Empowers Families to Prevent Teen Alcohol Misuse
RALEIGH, NC / ACCESSWIRE / October 11, 2023 / Talk it Out NC , North Carolina's initiative to prevent underage drinking, is excited to return to the N.C. State Fair for "Safety City." Talk it Out NC joins the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program and other state and community organizations from October 12-22. Together, they'll educate fairgoers about the importance of safe behaviors and responsible choices, including preventing underage drinking.
The "Safety City" exhibit is devoted to keeping people safe whether they're driving, toting children, riding a bike or motorcycle, or driving a boat. We will join the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program in educating fairgoers about traveling safely. Talk it Out NC's participation is centered on educating families about the dangers of underage drinking and encouraging open discussions with teens about avoiding alcohol misuse.

Talk it Out NC's recent 2023 State of Underage Drinking survey shows that a majority of students in North Carolina know people around their age who have talked about and tried alcohol. The report also found:
Talk it Out NC's interactive booth at "Safety City" will help young people, families, and other fairgoers understand the dangers of underage drinking, drinking and driving, and the powerful impact conversations can have on keeping children safe.
Activities at the Talk it Out NC booth include:
"Safety City" will be at the N.C. State Fair from October 12 to 22. "Safety City" is located behind the Kerr Scott Building at 4285 Trinity Road in Raleigh, located at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds . The exhibit is a collaboration between state, county, and local agencies, as well as law enforcement and nonprofit organizations.

The North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission launched the Talk it Out NC campaign in 2014. The goal of the multimedia awareness and engagement campaign is to reduce underage drinking by encouraging conversations between responsible adults and young people. Talk it Out NC offers resources for parents and others who need guidance talking to their children about the dangers of underage drinking. This aligns with the ABC Commission's mission of working to strengthen the public health, wellness, and safety of communities across North Carolina.
