Repeat Men's 4.0 Doubles Champs Take Time to Chill, Celebrate GCTC
MISSOULA, MT / ACCESSWIRE / August 9, 2023 / After the largest turnout in ten years and exciting play throughout the hot weekend, Men's Doubles team Craig Holtet and James Armstrong took some time to "chill" with a trip down the Clark Fork last week, with happy reflections on the 50 years of great tennis offered by The Open.
"It was great to repeat as champions after the long COVID break in play-our last win was 2019," said James Armstrong, the younger half of the victorious tandem. "This was the biggest draw in more than ten years, and the competition was fantastic. It was hot out there, but so much fun for everyone."
"It feels great to win at 60 years old," said Craig Holtet, with a chuckle. "It's also great to watch the future of our sport out there, too. There are some outstanding young players coming up, and this tournament is a showcase for that talent.," he continued. "Tennis really is a lifelong sport, and GCTA is just an amazing organization for so many families and friends."
The reigning champions have nothing but good things to say about USTA Montana and the tournament, held July 21-23 in temperatures up to 100 degrees on the court.
"It's the hottest tournament around," joked Armstrong, and after a plunge in the river and resting up, he said, "we'll be ready to defend next year."
