Chicago, IL – June 10, 2021 – For Miss. Peru 2021, Mischaela Elkins, the latest pageant win is only the beginning. The 5’10” striking blond from Lima, Peru has been competing in the world’s top pageants since 2009. In the 13 years since she entered the pageant world, she has won seven titles achieving two Miss Peru titles previously, in the Miss Model Beauty and Miss Elite Beauty pageants, and taking home the Miss Natural Beauty and Miss Photogenic, Miss Supermodel, Best Evening Gown, and Miss Glamorous Beauty subtitles respectively. When not competing, the radiant model works in high finance as a senior associate at an Investment Bank. Through her international initiatives, she brings together the global beauty queen community and works with top marine biologists to promote ocean preservation initiatives, while leveraging the Mensa international high IQ society she is a proud member of.
Elkins is clear about her motivation for competing. More than testing herself against some of the world’s top contestants, she wants a platform to shine a light on the ocean conservation and water preservation in Peru’s Nazca Ridge Marine Protected Area – a project that Peru has discussed undertaking for the nation’s bi-centennial in 2021. As a 2021 Miss Peru and bi-centennial queen, Elkins is passionate about ensuring final approval for this protected area in order to protect important deep-sea marine species and ensure the Nazca ecosystem which is fed and sustained by this key underwater biome is nurtured for generations to come. Elkins is also working hard to support and encourage the robust international effort to bring a sustainable water source to metro Lima and its 11 million inhabitants.
“I love competing on a world stage with my fellow pageant contestants,” explains Elkins. Not only do I get to meet dozens of extremely talented, intelligent women, I get to showcase my heritage and have the opportunity to shine a light on how important marine conservation is to not only Peru but the world. As a woman of mixed European and Indigenous heritage, I feel deeply connected to the land of the Inca and to the Pacific Ocean – two symbols that are the beating heart of coastal Lima and Peruvian culture. I’m so humbled to have support for the group I founded, ACQUAVENUS, which is a consortium of beauty queens around the world who inspire ocean conservation projects as well as water preservation initiatives globally. If this past year has shown us anything, it’s that our world is interconnected. Helping one community and one area of our world helps us all.”
When she isn’t advocating for environmental preservation, Elkins is working hard to pass on the self-confidence, motivation, and education she has, to fans of her three self-help books.
“It’s not only beauty queens who can benefit from pageant training,” explains Elkins. “One of the things every pageant contestant and beauty queen knows is that beauty is more than skin deep. It’s about confidence. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful inside and out and have the confidence to show off to their true beauty. I love sharing my knowledge and skills with women around the world and helping them discover their beauty and power.”
In the lead up to the Ms. Universe pageant, Elkins will compete in the Miss Vizcaya Swimwear competition set for July 2021 in Miami, Florida – a competition to determine the spokesmodel for the luxury swim brand with roots in Peru and the U.S. Finally, in August 2021, Mischaela Elkins will achieve her dream of representing her country as Ms. Peru in the 68th Ms. Universe pageant in Hollywood, Florida.
