Makondo Pets was founded by brothers Federico (CEO) and Sabastian (Veterinarian) Arciniegas in 2012 on the principals and passions of pets and nature. Born and raised in the countryside of Colombia, the brothers grew up fostering an appreciation and understanding for the importance of nature and every living being on the planet. The desire to help, care for and love pets, was inspired by watching and learning from their father, a veterinarian, throughout childhood. Together, these interests formed the company Makondo Pets, which services the areas of pet health solutions, pet grooming, pet treats and pet lover items, in an eco-friendly way!

The phrase most associated with eco-friendly is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and Makondo Pets promotes and embodies just that!
Reuse & Exhibit
Whether it’s pencil crayons, Lego, toy storage or screws, the products packaging boxes are sturdy enough for reuse and decorated with works from emerging artists in third world countries for great shelf appeal.
Recycle
After reusing the boxes, customers are encouraged to recycle it to avoid adding to landfill sites. The boxes that are made mostly with 100% recycled materials. The odorless water-based inks used on the boxes also produce zero hazardous air pollutants.
Although Makondo Pets has worked diligently to remove plastics from their packaging and shipping supplies, some of their products still come in plastic bottles. However, the company only packages products in safe plastics (HDPE 2) that can be recycled without any harm.
Compost
While plastic-free manufacturing is still difficult to come across, Makondo Pets has sourced alternative packaging to offer plastic-free solutions. This option has been achieved through compostable pouches and bags, as well as boxes crafted from mostly recycled materials. They also offer a return of the pouch or bag, for individuals that don’t have access to composting, so the company can ensure composting efforts and visions are upheld.
Saving Rainforests
Sustainable efforts have also gone beyond the walls of the company to make a global impact. Makondo Pets is teamed up with an initiative that focuses on the conservation of rainforests around the world. Every time any purchase is made at www.makondopets.com, a donation is made to help save trees in endangered forests worldwide. More specifically, each order from Makondo Pets helps to save 5 trees from being cut down!
These donations and efforts help to directly fight the climate crisis by reducing Co2 in the atmosphere, since rainforests are the lungs of our planet. Through the protection of the rainforest, safety is also provided to the animals that live within them.
The Veterinarian-Formulated products are manufactured in the United States in GMP certified facilities, and are developed with environmentally sound concepts and natural components that provide a safe and natural experience for pets.
