Insights for Professionals has released a new research report providing insights into cloud security. Download now: https://www.insightsforprofessionals.com/it/cloud/state-of-cloud-security-report

Insights for Professionals (IFP) surveyed 200 IT professionals responsible for cloud security across the USA and found that nearly 40% of firms have suffered a cloud data breach in the past 12 months.

While the advantages of cloud computing typically outweigh the disadvantages in terms of reduced costs and increased flexibility, the cloud creates new risks for businesses and IT leaders. Recent research from the State of Cloud Security in 2021 reveals that nearly three-quarters (73.5%) of IT professionals are extremely concerned about the security of their data, apps and infrastructure.

“COVID-19 has undoubtedly accelerated cloud adoption since 2020 and changed business leaders’ perception of this technology,” said Aikma Stirling-Stainsby, Editor at IFP. “But despite companies migrating from on-premises to the cloud in huge numbers, business leaders often forget about ‘security’ and assume that the cloud service provider is fully responsible for this.”

With public cloud spend forecast to reach $397 billion by 2022, according to Gartner, the State of Cloud Security Report looks at the different cloud deployment models that IT professionals use, the number of services they operate, and the tools they deploy to defend the business. The report also highlights the biggest cloud threats facing IT security professionals and companies.

Key findings include:

1. 45% of IT pros rank cloud account hijacking as the biggest security threat

2. 53% of professionals aren’t sure if they’re up to date with relevant regulations

3. Nearly 1 in 2 IT security respondents are concerned about data sovereignty/residency/control

4. 51.5% of businesses are concerned about internal security
