After nearly two years of a closed border, the Philippines is finally open to full vaccinated travellers. This is a long time coming for those who have been separated from their loved ones.

Modern Law Group has advised that there are multiple options for those engaged to someone in the Philippines. If they want to get married in the U.S., they can apply for a K-1 Fiancé visa. In order to get the K1 visa, you must have met your fiancé in person at least once. Many couples will utilize the open border to meet in person before applying.
Once they’ve met in person at least once and have met the other requirements, they’ll need to apply for the K-1 visa. When the K-1 visa is granted, the foreign fiancé may enter the United States for the purpose of getting married to the U.S. citizen. They must marry within 90 days. After they’re married, they can apply for adjustment of status for the foreign partner to become a U.S. lawful permanent resident.
Couples also have the option to get married in the Philippines and then immigrate to the United States on a CR-1 visa. They will first need to make an appointment with the US Embassy in Manila, attend the meeting with all necessary documents and then file an application for a marriage license at the Philippines Civil Registrar office. Once they are officially married in the Philippines, they can apply for a CR-1 spousal to enter the United States and then apply for adjustment of status.
