How To Keep Dog’s Ears Clean with Doggie Dailies

6 Easy Tips for Cleaning Dog’s Ears

Ear cleaning is an often overlooked aspect of dog grooming. While those floppy ears are undeniably adorable, they tend to trap moisture and make it easier for dirt and wax to become trapped. Smelly ears, frequent head shaking, and persistent itching are all signs that it’s time to clean a dog’s ears. Keeping a dog’s ears dry and clean can help avoid potential issues. Use the tips found here to ensure a proper cleaning.

1. Never Use Q-Tips

Just like with a human ear, using a Q-Tip to clean a dog’s ears can actually pack down the ear wax and debris into the ear canal instead of pulling it out. Additionally, if the dog moves their head while cleaning with a Q-tip, the dog’s ear canal could be damaged.

2. Use Plenty of Liquids

Utilizing a dog safe ear cleaning solution is critical for dissolving all of the wax buildup and debris that have accumulated in the dog’s ears. Doggie Dailies Cleansing Ear Wash with Tea Tree Oil and Soothing Aloe helps to flush out debris, soothe irritation and dry out excess moisture in the ear canal.

Once the liquid is in place, gently massage the lower portion of the dog’s ear for approximately 30 seconds to loosen wax and ensure it works properly.

3. Massage Repeat

Once the initial ear massage is complete, wipe out any visible ear wax and debris. If the ear and tissue continue to appear dirty, simply add more ear washing solution, massage and wipe once more.

Wait several days before the next cleaning. This will allow the cleaner to work and soften the wax. It also allows the dog time to shake and release loose debris naturally.

If irritation persists after several cleanings, it is always a good idea to consult with a veterinarian.

4. Use a Cotton Ball

Another great option is to utilize a soak cotton ball to loosen wax and debris. Soak a cotton ball in an ear cleaning solution until it is dripping. Place the cotton ball into the outer ear canal and then massage the ear just like before. After about 30 seconds, remove the cotton ball and use a dry towel to wipe any loose wax away.

5. Don’t Worry About Remaining Cleaning Solution

There’s going to be some of the cleaning solution left behind. Don’t worry, it will continue to work on dissolving and loosening remaining wax and debris. It isn’t going to cause any harm.

6. Finish with Praise and Treats

Make sure to finish the ear cleaning process with plenty of praise and a few treats. When there is something positive associated with the experience, the dog will be a more willing participant next time.

Cleaning a dog’s ears doesn’t have to be a difficult process, but it is important to know how to do it right. To learn more about the proper and safe way to care for dogs, visit the doggiedailies.com.
