Google Chrome Soon to Offer Biometric Authentication Option on Desktops

To help businesses eliminate data risks and carve out a competitive advantage, Transmit Security, a leading provider of modular, orchestrated identity services, offers passwordless logins with FIDO authentication.

According to Chrome Unboxed, Google will soon introduce biometric authentication to Chrome on Windows and MacOS. This new upgrade will provide users with a more secure option for authentication while viewing their saved passwords in Chrome.

In light of this new move by Google, Transmit Security has released a guide to biometric authentication.

Biometric authentication (fingerprint scanning, voice recognition, facial recognition, and retina and iris scanning) refers to the security procedure that uses the unique biological traits of individuals to verify their identity.

The solutions that leverage biometrics and private identity data compare a user’s behavioural and physical characteristics to verified and authentic data locally stored in the user device.

Releasing the guide, Transmit Security defines biometric authentication as the best way to ensure easy digital end-to-end customer journeys and to help customers achieve the highest level of assurance with one-touch multi-factor authentication (MFA). Additionally, as there are no login credentials to memorise, customers can conveniently and securely access enterprise apps, services, and websites.

Transmit Security adds that businesses that need to ensure high-end identity security for their customers should incorporate Multimodal Biometric Authentication with their apps. By integrating data from more than one biometric modality, a multimodal biometric system makes it challenging for malicious actors to spoof or break into a user’s device.

Even though biometric authentication uses advanced technologies that provide excellent advantages in access privilege and authentication, it’s not foolproof. Several vulnerabilities have been observed in the biometric data storage, manipulation, matching, and enrollment operations of even the most advanced biometric systems.

Transmit Security stresses the importance of deploying FIDO2-approved biometric authentication systems with enterprise apps for top-notch identity security. Such high-end systems use asymmetric cryptography to provide fast and robust user authentication while protecting user privacy.

Studies reveal that despite minor privacy concerns, biometrics wins for convenience and data protection. According to a survey published by Experian in 2020, 77% of the evaluated customers feel most protected while using physical biometrics.

Transmit Security claims its FIDO-certified app-less biometric authentication system is tailored to provide privacy-assured user authorisation with maximum precision. It enables high-end user authentication, fraud prevention, and embedded identity orchestration while eliminating passwords to fortify security with zero added friction, thus saving enterprises substantial costs. The result is a more enhanced customer experience–across all channels and devices.

To quote Rakesh Loonkar, President at Transmit Security, “We operate on a culture of integrity, transparency and inclusion. It’s fundamental to who we are. Both internally to our employees and certainly to our customers. We pride ourselves in offering a solution that is innovative and answers a huge need for enterprises and their customers.”

Founded in 2014, Transmit Security is a privately held identity and access management company at the forefront of innovation with its cloud-native CIAM platform.
