Dec 29, 2021 – With more than 30 years of experience in insurance fraud investigation, John Saunders has quite a few humorous tales to tell readers in his new book, “Go Away, I’m Dead”.
He has travelled around the world, helping investigate scams worth millions of pounds. He has met plenty of interesting characters who have gone above and beyond to make claims.
“You won’t believe the type of people I have encountered in the past 30 years. I’ve met many people who have faked their own death, murdered someone, and even cut off their own limbs. I’ve had some unreal experiences such as being threatened by armed gangsters, walking across a minefield, being mugged and also finding rats in my bed,” said Saunders, talking about all the bizarre things he has encountered during his time as an investigator.
Although it sounds interesting, insurance fraud investigators often face danger while trying to bring criminals to justice.
In 2019, the UK detected insurance fraud every five minutes. The same year, insurance companies registered 300 insurance frauds per day. It’s not uncommon for investigators to deal with fake medical reports, fake deaths, attempted murder, and even natural disasters.
However, Saunders’ book focuses on more than just insurance fraud. It focuses on his travel adventures and discovering the world through other people’s eyes.
“The book is written in a humorous tone so that people know that despite the drawbacks, there’s a reason why I was an insurance fraud investigator for 30 years. At the end of the day, it was a rewarding job, and it made my life more interesting; very adventurous,” said Saunders, talking about the interesting part of insurance claim investigation.
