Dear SuperFan, Staples Center is Back!

LOS ANGELES, CA, May 11, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — Hallelujah! LA County has finally lifted its venue ban and the Staples Center has been reopened to the public after being closed for more than a year. On April 15, 2021, the doors to the Staples Center flew open and allowed a limited number of fans to return to “the house that Kobe built”. Jeff ‘Simsta’ Sims was amongst the first of 2,000 fans to attend a Lakers game and test the new Staples Center’s COVID protocols. Jeff Sims, a regular Lakers season ticket holder, watched the Lakers play in front of spectators since the Staples Center closed early last year.

Simsta is one third of The Profanity Nation, a trio of Lakers Superfans, who co-host a weekly interactive podcast that delves into all things sports. During the game, Simsta shared part of his journey on live social media starting with the ease of the health screening check-in stations on Chick Hearn Blvd onto the concourse all the way to his seat inside the stadium. “It feels good to be back in the stadium and I’m happy to be amongst the first,” Simsta beams. “COVID protocols were simple and didn’t interfere with enjoying the game.”

On game day, listeners learned that most items were not allowed inside the stadium, including food and drink. Jeff was a bit surprised to discover the full dining experience wasn’t made available during the game. Money Mic asked with disappointment, “Wait, you mean no prime rib?” Simsta explained that not only was the stadium fare limited to snacks and bottled beverages, but fans were not allowed to watch the game in the concourse if they decided to sit and eat. Simsta and his co-hosts even joked about the fan who was the first to get ejected from the Staples Center for heckling players.

Despite the Lakers unfortunate loss to the Celtics, Simsta’s insight into his experience at Staples Center may be the deciding factor for a hesitant Lakers fans questioning their return to spectator sports. Catch the full episode with The Profanity Nation live on Facebook.
