“Weston McGowen’s Artist Method is an artist development and label services company providing artists, managers, and record labels with all of the essential tools they need to launch global music campaigns.”
The Artist Method has curated a list of their favorite hard rock and metal bands sure to satisfy your urge for aggressive, uplifting and energetic music. Highlighted artists in this ongoing series of heavy rock includes San Antonio, TX based progressive rock outfit “Nothing More,” Longview, TX based “Post Profit,” and Chicago’s very own “Russian Circles.”

1. “Go To War” by Nothing More from San Antonio, TX – Listen now on Spotify

Employing a powerful blend of twisty progressive rock, explosive heavy metal, and soaring, radio-ready alt-rock, hard-hitting, forward-thinking San Antonio-based quartet Nothing More invokes names like System Of A Down, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Incubus, The Mars Volta, and Killswitch Engage. Formed around the talents of longtime friends Jonny Hawkins, Daniel Oliver, Mark Vollelunga, and Ben Anderson, the band spent years honing their sound and skills, and sharpening their worldview on the road, adopting a strict D.I.Y. ethic and issuing their music independently. In 2013 they inked a deal with the Eleven Seven Label Group, the home of acts like Five Finger Death Punch, Sixx:A.M.., Papa Roach, and HELLYEAH, and released their eponymous debut for the label, along with the fiery first single “This Is the Time (Ballast),” the following year. It proved to be a breakout release for the veteran band, charting well and introducing them to a much wider audience. Led by the single “Go to War,” Nothing More returned with their follow-up, The Stories We Tell Ourselves, in September 2017.

2. “Smother” by Post Profit from Longview, TX – Listen now on Spotify

Post profit is an uplifting, energetic and aggressive alternative rock band formed in 2017 hailing from Longview, Texas. The band draws from many influences, including Editors, Converge, Glassjaw, Big Spring, Starset, Lamb of God, IDLES, Russian Circles, Northlane, Nothing More, Of Mice & Men, Deftones, Incubus, Foo Fighters, and Failure among several other notable artists. Post Profit has had the pleasure of playing with well-known artists such as Filter, Candlebox, Adelitas way, Blacktop Mojo, Saliva, Gemini Syndrome, Drowning Pool, Zebra, Smile Empty Soul, and Sons Of Texas. The band has recently performed at welcome to Rockville 2021 in Daytona Beach, Florida after winning Danny Wimmer Presents’ Twitch live stream competition where they supported Lynyrd Skynyrd and Metallica. Post Profit also joined Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Escape The Fate on tour in 2022.

ETX Music Awards also crowned Post Profit as “Metal Artist Of The Year” in 2018 and “Rock Band Of The Year” in 2019, which shows the bands ability to blend between the different genres seamlessly. This allows them to fit alongside so many great acts, and not be so easily pinned down to one niche or fanbase – and all the while, do it well.

Post Profit are currently recording a follow up EP which is set to be released later this year and is being produced by legendary Rock & Metal producer MACHINE who has produced award-winning records for Lamb of God, CLUTCH, Crobot among many other notable artists.

Their debut album “When You Think It’s Right It’s Always Wrong” was released earlier this year and can be streamed on Spotify for the curious.

3. “Enter” by Russian Circles from Chicago, IL – Listen now on Spotify

With their latest album Blood Year, Russian Circles forsake the sonic crossroads of divergent musical paths found on albums like Guidance and Memorial to offer up the most direct and forceful collection of songs in their discography. With Sullivan, Turncrantz, and Cook all residing in different states, Russian Circles have typically crafted their albums by piecing together song fragments and home recordings into meticulous texture-rich studio productions. But after seven tours in North American and five trips to Europe in support of 2016’s Guidance, the band made a conscious effort to approach the songs on Blood Year with the same organic feel of a live show. While it retains the dexterity, multi-faceted techniques, and dramatic compositions that have been a trademark of Russian Circles since day one, Blood Year fully embraces the most powerful aspects of the band’s repertoire. The Chicago trio have always explored the dynamics of volume and timbre, with their albums often vacillating between caustic attacks and blissful respites. From Mike Sullivan’s riff-fueled assaults, to Dave Turncrantz’s war machine rack and floor toms and Brian Cook’s meat grinding bass lines, the sound of Blood Year is that of a band unafraid to flaunt their hard-earned prowess. Russian Circles returned to the studio with Kurt Ballou to record Blood Year, but this time they tracked it in Chicago at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio where previous albums Enter, Geneva, and Memorial were recorded.
