Yo-Yo Ma launches Toronto Music Garden’s sensational Summer Program

Toronto, Canada – Parks & Recreation Division – World-acclaimed cellist
Yo-Yo Ma joined James Fleck, President of the Art Gallery of Ontario and
leadership donor of the Toronto Music Garden, and Councillor Brian Ashton
(Scarborough Bluffs), Chair of the Economic Development and Parks Committee
to launch the Garden’s first summer of programming.

The Garden’s summer programming, which runs from June 3 to September 27, is
made possible by funding from Ontario 2000 and the Ontario Ministry of
Citizenship, Culture and Recreation. This program includes a special
millennium celebration of free concerts, garden tours, storytelling and
dance performances.

Visitors to the Garden will also be able to enjoy an all-
new
digital audio
guide to the Garden. The audio guide features Yo-Yo Ma and Julie Moir
Messervy, the Garden’s designer, who take visitors on a musical tour of the
Garden’s six sections. A key component of the audio guide is Yo-Yo Ma
playing Johann Sebastian Bach’s First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello, the
music that inspired the Garden’s creation. The 75-minute audio guide will be
available to visitors while they tour the Garden from June 10 to September
15.

Information about the Toronto Music Garden and the Ontario 2000 Toronto
Music Garden Summer Program is available at Access Toronto offices at City
Hall, Metro Hall, and civic centres, as well as from Toronto libraries and
community centres, and Ontario Travel Information offices. Members of the
public are also invited to call Access Toronto at 416-338-0338.

The Toronto Music Garden, located at 475 Queen’s Quay West, between Bathurst
Street and Spadina Avenue, was officially opened in June 1999 and has won
